About LED and LED Bulb:
Bulbs came into existence due to the efforts and researches of the great scientist Sir Thomas Alva Edison. In 1878 Edison made his first bulb with a carbon filament. This was a blessing for the mankind. Since then lots of researches were done and as a result at present we have different types bulbs with us. They are: Incandescent Light Bulbs, Compact Fluorescent (CFL) bulbs and the latest of it is Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs.
To understand the process of LED, we should know what it actually is. The full form of LED is “Light Emitting Diode”. Here two lead semiconductor light source emits light when suitable voltage is applied. The electrons are able to recombine with the electron holes within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons and this is how it works.
LED lights are up to 80% more efficient than traditional lighting such as fluorescent and incandescent lights. 95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light and only 5% is wasted as heat. This is compared to fluorescent lights which convert 95% of energy to heat and only 5% into light! LED lighting is very different from other lighting sources such as incandescent bulbs and CFLs. LEDs emit light in a specific direction, reducing the need for reflectors and diffusers that can trap light. This feature makes LEDs more efficient for many uses such as recessed downlights and task lighting. Not every bulb will work in every fixture. Some CFLs and LEDs, for instance, can’t be used in ceiling fixtures where the bulb hangs upside down. Other bulbs can’t be used in a fully enclosed fixture or in an outdoor fixture that’s exposed to the elements.
LED lighting will provide significant energy and lamp replacement savings, long term reliability and enhanced ‘user friendly’ light quality. LED lighting consumes up to 80% less energy and lasts over 50,000 hours (11 ½ years at 12 hours per day, 7 days per week) -to eliminate light bulb (and ballast) replacements and disposal for years to come. Also, because LED lighting emits very little heat, air conditioning is no longer required to compensate for that heat -reducing energy costs even further.
LEDs do not generate UV radiation as they are lit by electric current flowing to semiconductors. Any heat generated is not in the infrared or ultraviolet part of the light spectrum. Finally, every LED lamp is designed to eliminate the annoying sideways light glare so typical with traditional lighting -for a headache free, enjoyable user experience.
